Introducing Simon Howarth
From the 9th March you may notice a new face in Ourvets Halswell, and Riccarton as Simon Howarth joins the team as our new lead veterinarian. His role will involve consulting and surgery as well as leading the team in maintaining our high standards in the care of your pets. Simon will also be assisting in the management of the clinic alongside practice manager Jo Smith. Simon will be mainly at the Halswell branch but will also be at our Riccarton branch 1 day a week.
Simon graduated from Vet School 10 years ago and he initially started working in Auckland. Since 2014 Simon has been based in Royal Leamington Spa in the midlands of the UK, initially as a general practice clinician and then for two years working through the nights at an out of hours clinic. After a number of years of travelling and exploring Europe a return to family, friends and nicer weather has led Simon back to New Zealand and to the Ourvets team.
Simon has plenty of experience in all aspects of small animal care and is particularly interested in soft tissue surgery (e.g. removing cancerous growths, gastro-intestinal surgery), emergency medicine and preventative healthcare.
Simon is joined back in Christchurch by his wife Beth and their 7 year old tonkinese cat named Wobbles. Wobbles was a rescue kitten who is a little unsteady on her feet due to a congenital brain developmental issue but it definitely doesn't slow her down.
