Our Mission: “Integrity and trust, working as a team, and providing a quality service in a consistent manner.”
Ourvets is a multi-location practice, where each veterinarian’s area of expertise fits together to create an extensive portfolio of veterinary skills and knowledge.
We love our own pets as much as you love yours. If you want the best care for your pet you have come to the right place.
Ourvets offer a wide range of preventative medical services such as vaccinations, nutrition and puppy playschool. We do both routine and advanced surgeries. Our well equipped central hospital has in-house laboratory, digital xray, ultrasonography, CT scanner and emergency and critical care equipment. This enables us to diagnose and treat complex and critically ill pets. Accepting referral patients from all over the South Island for advanced imaging and surgery, we also enjoy a close working relationship with other referral practices should your pet need this. Our veterinary nursing team are dedicated to making your pet’s stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
I joined Ourvets as the Lead veterinarian for the Halswell and Riccarton branches in March 2020. After graduating from Massey University in 2009. I initially began practising in Auckland before travelling to the UK and living and working in England for 6 years. During my time in the UK I had many exciting opportunities including learning keyhole surgery, and working with the UK guide dog association. Thank fully returning home for a more relaxed culture and warmer temperatures at the end of 2019 proved to very timely to avoid the border closures with COVID-19. I have experience in most areas of small animal general practice and particular interests in soft tissue surgery and preventative healthcare
I enjoy travelling to new areas and experiencing different cultures and foods, as well as watching the latest sports events. My wife, Bethany, and I have a cat, "Wobbles", who was born with a congenital brain defect but it hasn't held her back as she has travelled to the UK and back too!
I have been working for Ourvets Halswell since August 2014
I enjoy all aspects of small animal veterinary profession and have a passion for overall good health in animals and focus on the wellbeing of my patients, with minimal stress to the animals I treat.
I qualified from Massey University in 2008 and have worked across New Zealand in a variety of veterinary practices.
I have a lovely young family, with my wife Rachael, 2 boys (Clark and Quinn) and 1 girl Avery.
We live with our 4 dogs and have settled into Canterbury well over the past few years. I love being in the outdoors with my family and dogs. I compete in canine agility and love duck shooting and have recently started to focus on big game hunting.
Zani became a member of the team in August 2017 after moving from Rustenburg, South Africa with her husband and two young daughters. She graduated in 2008 from the University of Pretoria and started her work in a mixed practice.
Zani has encountered and treated an amazing variety of patients in her career including tigers, antelopes, lions, and even once preformed a caesarean section on a marmoset monkey!
Within the veterinary field, Zani enjoys soft tissue surgery and general medicine. She is loving getting to know our regular patients, especially since she had to leave her beloved pets back in South Africa with friends and family.
In her free time, Zani enjoys being in the great outdoors, particularly hiking, swimming and taking in all New Zealand has to offer. She also loves reading and of course, spending time with her wonderful family.
I have been a member of the Ourvets Halswell team on and off since 2014. After a couple of maternity breaks and 2 1/2 years working at the Christchurch After Hours Clinic I rejoined the team permanently in December 2020.
I graduated in 2006 from the Cambridge University in the UK. I have worked in a variety of practices in the UK and New Zealand, initially as a mixed practice vet, then an equine vet and then dedicated to companion animals for the last 8 years. I enjoy emergency procedures, soft tissue surgery and general medicine.
Outside of work I have a lovely family with my husband Roger and our two children Samson and Cora. We also have two elderly cats who moved here with us from the UK and two much younger rabbits. We love to spend time outdoors particularly walking, biking, skiing and swimming and generally taking advantage of everything New Zealand has to offer.
I have worked as a receptionist and junior nurse here at Halswell for the past one-and-a-half-years and I have now stepped up to the role of Practice Manager. We have a huge focus on working as a team here and I enjoy playing a part in creating a workplace where we enjoy coming to work and the work we do, as well as ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the practice. I am also very lucky to have such an awesome team!
In my spare time I enjoy going on walks up the hill and spending time with my dogs - who are two crazy Irish terriers.
I have been working here at Halswell as a vet nurse since August 2007, and I love my job due to the variety of skills that I have learnt and opportunities that I have gained as well as all the people I have meet in the 12 years working in this clinic. My favourite parts of veterinary nursing are looking after hospitalised animals and surgeries.
I have also been running the clinic puppy preschool for the past 7 years, I enjoy watching the puppies develop through my extensive training and being part of their wellbeing through life.
I have two Miniature Schnauzer named Apple and Echo. We compete in two dogs sports Obedience and Rally-O.
I joined Ourvets Halswell in February 2019. I have been veterinary nursing since 2005 when I graduated from Christchurch Polytech with a Certificate in Veterinary Nursing. During the course of my career I have worked mostly in general small animal clinics but have also worked in an after hours emergency clinic where my passion for vet nursing really grew. I love all aspects of vet nursing but have a keen interest in surgery and critical care.
I have three young boys aged 4-8 who keep me on my toes and one fur baby, a snooty torti cat named Hillary (aka Moose) who lives with my partner in Auckland. In my spare time I like to dabble in a bit of knitting or crochet, I also love the outdoors, road trips and day hikes and am a bit of a Facebook addict.
I joined Ourvets Halswell in April 2019. I have been a Veterinary Nurse for the past eight years and I really enjoy it, especially in taking care of the hospital and surgery patients.
I have lived in Christchurch for the past 25 years and am married with three children who are 22, 18 and 16 years old. I currently have two cats and one dog.
I joined the Halswell team in June 2020 and have worked as a veterinary nurse for many years in both the UK and NZ since I graduated in 1998. I love cats and dogs and small fluffies so I feel very lucky to have a career that lets me care for them.
Out of work my favourite thing is to spend time with my family. I am a mum to two young boys, and a fur child “Pretzel” a cheeky little beagle that likes to eat everything especially lego!
I graduated from Ara with a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing in 2019. Since the middle of 2019 I started working at the Templeton branch and locum nursing at the other NVC clinics around Christchurch. I have since joined the amazing team at Halswell. I am a fellow crazy cat lady, with 4 cats of my own at home and a love of all breeds of dogs and cats but I will always have a soft spot for Labradors. Also a horse lover and have 2 rescue minis that I spend time with in the weekends teaching my daughter about her ponies and having fun.
I am looking forward to getting to know the Halswell clients and seeing some friendly faces from Templeton who have transferred to us here.
I graduated with a National Certificate in Veterinary Nursing back in 2015 and have worked in the industry ever since. I worked in a specialist practice for nearly 4 years in Christchurch before coming to Halswell, gaining a keen interest in critical care, orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeries. I am enjoying being back in general practice getting to know all of the lovely Halswell clients and team members. In my spare time I enjoy exploring new parts of NZ, checking out craft bars and spending time with friends and family. I have always been a cat person so while I can't have any currently, I am certainly on the hunt and like chilling with my 16yr old family cat in the mean time!
